Well, first the good news. Peter Straub has selected "The Long Hall on the Top Floor" for Fantastic Tales: American Stories of Terror and the Uncanny, which he's editing for the Library of America. The volume is due out in October 2009. I count this, with the reprint of "In the Water Works (1889)" i...

Due to a formatting error discovered at the last minute, and requiring production of a second PDF, Sirenia Digest #39 only just went out to subscribers, about five minutes ago (though, by the time I finish this entry, it'll be more like 45 minutes ago). Again, my apologies on the lateness of this is...

Yesterday, I wrote 1,020 words and finished "The Bone's Prayer," which came in at a total of 6,388 words. The story is much less a "mythos" tale than I'd thought it would be, and I'm glad of that. I'm always more comfortable with my Lovecraftian-influenced fiction when it's not out-and-out Yog-Sotho...

A rather remarkable 1,885 words yesterday on "The Bone's Prayer," for Sirenia Digest #39. Though, I will admit, a bit of that was me discovering that the "sea's daughter" fragment I posted here a couple of days back fit into a dream sequence. I'll finish the story today. Also, I have to reformat The...

An odd day yesterday. After breakfast, I sat down and did my journal entry. I emailed my editor at Penguin, and I emailed Andrew Migliore about the Lovecraft Film Festival. And then, suddenly, I felt as though I was coming down with the flu. Within half an hour, I was aching and could hardly sit up,...

Today, I am no less inclined than I was yesterday to gaze upon the process of editing one of my novels with anything but a mix of dread and annoyance. But the black funk of yesterday has lifted enough that I think I can at least write a civil blog entry. Yesterday, I finished with the editorial lett...

Here in Providence, it's snowing again. Not up to a genuine entry right now, however I need to say that the FREE gift to Sirenia Digest subscribers will be going out TODAY. As I said before, it's a 12M+ file, but only two people have asked that we not send it, so I must assume that everyone else has...

So, because I live in a hole in the ground (not unlike a hobbit, I suppose), and have developed numerous news avoidance tactics, I entirely missed the fact that, way back in October, Sarah Palin tried to keep the Cook Inlet beluga whales from receiving Federal protection under the Endangered Species...

I think I'm simply going to stop trying to sleep. I'll avoid the nightmares, and won't have to complain about insomnia. All of yesterday was spent proofing and editing "The Belated Burial" and "The Thousand-and-Third Tale of Scheherazade" for Sirenia Digest #38, and laying out the issue. And I might...

So, turns out a file (hard copy) I needed, in order to include that something special in Sirenia Digest #38 was boxed up in our storage unit in Pawtucket. And so we had to drive to Pawtucket to retrieve it. I'd hoped I'd still be able to get the issue out tonight, but the insomnia is slowing me down...
