Like many others I really like Ant and I intend to keep using it until something better comes along. And I strongly feel that when you try to use *only* Maven for everything, you give up control over a few things. Are there things that Ant does better than Maven? Oh yes, IMHO. I started my current gig at the end of last year. I've been enjoying the work and especially the project infrastructure we've been using. We're using the usual suspects: JIRA, Confluence, Hudson and Subversion. We're also using a couple new ones, namely sventon and Nexus. For building, we're using M...

She writes in the Sunday New York Times Book Review: I once dated a man who seemed perfectly normal until the day he asked me to dress up for sex. By “dress up” I don’t mean in lingerie. He asked me if I’d dress up as a cop. My experiences in costume had been restricted to sc...

Filed under: Holiday Gift Guide 2008 João Sabino a Portuguese designer has finally found a use for all those computer keyboards that land in the trash. He has repurposed 393 discarded keys to cover interesting-looking, though impractical, handbags. The tote style bags are described as fashion...

The words " Social Media " have become the most abused words in the last year. The abuse has usually come from the agency world. Instead of attempting to create advertising that inspired brand engagement or "conversations" or even purchase, agencies spent a year attempting to jump on a bandwag...

Madaspeak has a nice writeup on how to use Cucumber from Maven. I ran into some problems with downloaded gems being read-only and this caused troubles as files seem to be opened in read-write mode. I get the following error: C:\Documents and Settings\palbra\Desktop\cucumber_trymvn test [INFO] Scanni...

It took a lot of ferreting out, but I eventually learned that you can put a <version/> tag in your site.xml, and Maven will put the project version number into the generated site. By default, it appears at the top, next to the (default position of) the publish date. <version/> can have a...

Today NetBeans 6.5 got released. Congratulations, guys! I’m primarily an Eclipse user 1 , but I keep hearing about NetBeans through the Java Posse and heck, I even subscribe to the NetBeans podcast to try and keep an eye on what’s up. Every time a new release comes out, I give it a whirl...

Last night, I stayed up into the wee hours of the morning working on something I've been wanting to do for a long time. It wasn't until I was trouncing around the woods in Montana that I realized how easy it would be. The something I've wanted to do was to modify AppFuse Light to use AppFuse's core ...
