Jewcy is a Jewish internet portal featuring original writing about the arts, culture and politics.  When I first encountered the site I was quite excited because when it comes to Jewish media, there is very little that is hip, unconventional or provocative.  Jewcy appeared to fit that mold with bo...

I could never figure out why Jewcy.com didn’t use Adsense on their site. They probably could’ve made $100,000 from it over the past three years and at least as much from other online advertising programs. Perhaps if they had used these things, their demise wouldn’t be so sure. Some...

Lilit Marcus writes on Jewcy.com: A few weeks ago, I wrote a post on Jewcy about my Jewish identity - more specifically, about not knowing Hebrew and wondering if that made me less of a Jew. I also referenced the fact that my mother is not Jewish, which isn’t some big secret or anything, but w...

I love the writing Lilit Marcus, who’s revived Jewcy.com. She comments: "I know that a large part of the reason I am so insecure about my religious identity is because of men I’ve dated and their judgments on my Jewishness. When I was dating a modern Orthodox guy, he considered me &...

I'm still getting over my cold, heading home from St. Louis tonight. The weather's been on and off, but I got to see some St. Louis sites, went to the art museum yesterday. Anyway, I've been way off my writing game of late and want to apologize to Jewcy for being a very bad guest blogger for them th...

I went to synagogue starting in about the 3rd or 4th grade and we always attended services for Yom Kippur, both evening and all day. (in addition to Shabbat, Rosh Hashana, Purim, Sukkot, Simchat Torah, and others...) I don't remember much about the rest of the holidays (though I loved Simchat Torah)...

In Hebrew "dai" (pronounced die) means enough. Judaism is a beautiful tradition. I am an atheist, but I still identify as a Jew because I love the tradition in which I was born. At its heart, Judaism encourages and even demands questioning. It talks of integrity, respect, caring for others. It is a ...

Author: tahlraz Posted to Jewcy: May 19, 2008 2:08 pm===== It is the question. It is the reason for Jewcy. The question's celebrated and undeserving cousin -- What will become of Judaism? -- gets all the attention and money. It's surely not as important, but its tacit implication of crisis h...

Tamar Fox — even when I hate what she says, I enjoy how she says it — writes for Jewcy: Rabbi Avi Weiss and Rabbi Marc Angel have launched a new group for Orthodox rabbis called the International Rabbinic Fellowship, which they hope can be an answer to the Rabbinic Council of America and...

This week brought evidence that even alterna-indie Jewish publications are not immune to the forces of globalization and media conglomeration. We’re speaking of course, of the “merger” (although that probably isn’t the right word) between Jewcy and Zeek. It is a slightly odd ...
