Gamasutra has some thoughts from game developers, executives, and industry watchers this week about third-party Wii development, and how the industry seems to be slowly coming to grips with how to sell games on Nintendo's platform. The piece paints an interesting picture of how the divide between ga...

How does "My First Time" sound as this year's topic for GDC's time-honored Game Design Challenge panel? It may sound like something we cooked up ourselves, but it is, in fact, legit. This year's theme is all about the dilemma of designing games centered on "sex and autobiography." Obliviously, this ...

Recently, I was selected to be a judge in Bebo’s B.E.S.T. Developer contest. Â Over 2,000 applicants participated, and after 2 months, 18 were selected by Bebo to be judged. Â Frank Gruber, Dave McClure, and I (Jesse Stay) all had the opportunity of trying out each one and judge, based on vari...

The Cupertino-Mushroom Kingdom gap has been closed: you can now mix and match DS and iPhone/iPod touch for wireless control of music and visuals. DSMI, the homebrew library that has enabled wireless and serial MIDI connections from the Nintendo DS, has come to iPod touch and iPhone. That means anyon...

I found this little ad (below) in one of the Stanford newspapers. I thought it's interesting how a company is trying to compete with Google by positioning the great food and the perks (that make you stay longer hours...) as a negative. Not sure it's effective, but it did catch my attention. 10 Years...

By Wired magazine contributing editor Brian Ashcraft In a country full of iconoclastic game designers, Japan's Keita Takahashi somehow manages to stand out even more. He gives press conferences barefoot. He doesn't like having his picture taken — his office couldn't get us one. He dreams of someda...

Filed under: Gaming, iPhone, iPod touch Right before Macworld I had a chance to try out Bouncetrap from Playscreen, and talk to the team behind it. Bouncetrap [App Store link] costs $.99US, and fans of simple, fast games will probably love it. I'll go into the mechanics of Bouncetrap first, then get...

How do you get people to stay engaged on your site? You could work really really hard to produce stellar content, or you could take an easy way out and start embedding highly addictive games to do all the hard work for you. The fact of the matter is that even the most compelling content will be skim...

I'm trying to think of just how cheap of a jackass you have to be to crack a 99 cent iPhone app from a husband and wife development team, but I'm pretty certain it isn't measurable by the scientific tools I have around the household. Worse, to be such a jackass about the whole deal as to try and act...

Unfortunately, it appears Bob has finally snapped, it was bound to happen. Spending five bloody years making a Nintendo DS game is bound to have a negative impact on anyones brain. For those who don’t know, Bob is a bedroom coder who’s been working on (admittedly) a fucking awesome looki...
