Welcome to Project Car Hell, where you choose your eternity by selecting the project that's the coolest... and the most hellish! Since I've become the Weekend Editor, I've had to cut back on PCH posts. That means that we need truly hellish contestants in Project Car Hell now, the concentrated essenc...

I may just dislocate something trying to pat myself on the back for discovering this... and I was so excited that I started working on getting it online mere moments after I found it! Here is an uber-rare clip from the final episode of "The Brady Bunch Hour," which was only broadcast in the USA once...

I've never been a full member of the congregation at the Church of Syd. I saw him as a curio, as the bald uncle who disturbed the young Robyn Hitchcock with innuendo after everyone else had left the dining room. Later I came back to him through the lens of Tom Stoppard's Rock 'n' Roll , which achiev...

As Robert Redford gives a brilliant performance in ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN, co-star Dustin Hoffman is possessed by the soul of a retarded chipmunk. Sadly, the footage of Hoffman's ensuing rampage, when he terrorized the cast and crew, no longer exists. _____________________________________________ I...

From this vantage point (a terraced house in South East London, 2009), it seems clear that the performances on this live album from 1977 and 1978 — the ones featuring Rick Wakeman — are just filler. Some smart person spotted that the recordings of The Gates of Delirium and Ritual —...

£6.49 from Our Price in about 1982, around the same time I got that first Conrad Schnitzler album. Dune came out in 1979, and I was curious at first to discover how similar it might be to Trancefer , which I had bought previously, though it came out a couple of years later. And then I was curi...

Alfred Hitchcock was one of a kind. In an era when director's didn't have household names, Hitch shattered that rule by beaming into living rooms each week as host of "Alfred Hitchcock Presents." Although he'd already had a successful career up until that point, the TV series made a star of the man ...

As Holta-Polta plays in the Music Room, the Boy is messing around in what we call his 'Rick Wakeman'. It's a mauve, doughnut-shaped piece of moulded plastic with harness in the middle, to support him 'standing' as swivels to avail himself of the various toys embedded in the plastic: a rattle, a 'boo...

Initially I decided to break from my normal rule (loosely enforced, as I am policeman, judge and jury as well as offender) of listening to the original album. My copy is the five-disc vinyl release from 1985, but it would be another three years before I lived again in the same house as my turntable....
