Grokking Local

Ray Baxter at Yesterday's Thoughts writes about subscribing to a Blogdigger Local feed for his neighborhood:

Since I added geocodes to the blog I have been tracking a Blogdigger feed of blog postings near me. This is an interesting way to read. I come across many things that I wouldn't otherwise.
Using Local, Ray found someone nearby who had visited a local aquarium and written about his experience, which prompted him to add his own thoughts. Starting a conversation. It's like a local newspaper, owned and edited by the people.

Watching the logs, it does appear that most local searches are just for location; the search filtering is used less often initially. I'm thinking we may want to make the Local search results page look more like Topix, and less like Blogdigger (or, in other words, more like Localfeeds - which, let's be honest, continues to inspire us all). Thoughts?
